ABOUT
Edith TANKUS is an award winning director, performer, writer and clown.
Edith is originally from Toronto, Canada and of Israeli Moroccan descent. She now resides in rural Kent, UK with her husband, two kids and dog. As a performer most recently, she played in Emma Rice’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at The Globe and has done the voice work for Alan Yentob’s Imagine series on Margaret Atwood for BBC Four.
She has worked with U.K. companies, Told by an Idiot and has toured extensively with Kneehigh Theatre performing in Hansel and Gretel, at Warwick Arts Centre and on the Southbank. She played title role in Rapunzel at Queen Elizabeth Hall on a U.K. tour and on Broadway.
As a collaborator she co-wrote with Emma Rice and performed in WonderNurse as part of London’s first One to One Festival at Battersea Arts Centre where she has also worked as artist in residence
She directed and co-wrote Nearly Lear, a one-woman adaptation of King Lear, which has been performed on Broadway, New York, at the Kennedy Center in Washington, and at the Sydney Opera House as well as touring in the U.S. and in the U.K. Nearly Lear is the recipient of the International Performing Arts for Youth (IPAY) Victor Award for Outstanding Production.
She directed and performed in “The ARCHIVISTS” a devised piece for young audiences, co-produced with BAC which premiered in London.
She regularly performs her one woman vaudeville show for young audiences “Hurricane Gerty” in schools in Kent and in Toronto.
Through her residencies, Edith has lead workshops in schools and theatres exploring physical theatre, Shakespeare, clown and devising.
Presently, she is working on a new show called “WILD COUNTRY” with the brilliant likes of Annie Siddons and Laura Keefe.
